Go to: BeforeDuring, or After the service.

Before the Service

  1. Arrive 10 to 15 minutes before practice starts
  2. Turn on the power for the stack using the key switch and the cooling fan (light switch) on your left when you enter the tech booth.
  3. Place rechargeable batteries in the charger.
  4. Connect iPad to its charger.
  5. Turn on the sound board by flipping the power button on the back right of the board.
  6. Recall the appropriate scene (By worship leader).
  7. Click mode on the foyer amp once to change to line input.
  8. Turn on the computer monitor and wake the pc by moving the mouse. Once it is up and logged in, open "Capture" . Start a new session.
  9. Open "Universal Control" . Click the image of the sound board to connect.
  10. The first 10 minutes of practice are set aside for doing initial line checks with each channel, one at a time. Set the gain so the signal is peaking around -15db. Once this is done the gain should be left alone unless absolutely necessary.
  11. After line checks are done you can work on adjusting monitor mixes. Feel free to gently remind people there is an app so they can adjust their own monitor mixes!
  12. Tweak the volume, equaliser, and fx for a good overall mix.
    • Take notes of who is leading and if there are any vocal or instrumental solos.
    • Try moving around the sanctuary to get an idea of how the sound varies in different areas of the room.
    • Use the black headphones connected to the sound board to adjust eq's.
    • If you wish to use the Spectrum Analyser or RTA feature in Universal Control to help:
      • Click the graphic EQ above the volume slider on the PC. This should bring up a larger version of the graphic EQ. To the right of that there are 3 buttons including "Spec" and "RTA". Use these to toggle those features on or off.
  13. Set the Foyer and Nursery feeds.
    1. Basic:
      1. Keep the instruments low. Their sound will carry from the mains.
      2. Have vocals a bit higher.
      3. Have the handheld and headset channels highest.
    2. Advanced:
      1. Match the mix of the foyer feed (Aux 9) to the mix for the stream (Aux 10). From there you can make any needed adjustments to the foyer sound.
      2. Match the mix of the nursery feed (Aux 8) to the mix for the foyer (Aux 9). From there you can make any needed adjustments to the nursery sound.
  14. Once the practice is done, in Capture, disarm any channels that will not be used by clicking the red dot by the corresponding channel. If you are unsure leave all the channels armed (red dot showing).
  15. Start recording in Capture on the pc.
  16. Check the order of service and determine the number of mic's needed. Typically it's 1 headset and 1 handheld mic.
  17. Get the required number of mic's prepared. Make sure the batteries are in the green when tested. If the mic looks like it will be used a fair bit consider using stronger batteries.
  18. Turn each mic on. Test to make sure you are getting a signal from each mic and then turn them off. Ensure the mic channels are muted. Give the headset mic to the person giving the sermon. Alternatively, leave the mics on the music stand used by the preacher.
  19. Use spotify or cd's to play prelude music.
  20. As the service is about to start, stop playing prelude music. Then un-mute aux 10 and queue the rest of the team to start. (I count down "3-2-1-Live". I unmute and the media tech goes live at 1.)

DURING THE SERVICE

  • Mute / unmute channels as needed.
  • Monitor the sound for any echo or feedback and adjust to eliminate it.
  • Tweak the mix and eq's to keep the proper levels.

AFTER THE SERVICE

  1. Stop the recording on the PC and close any open programs. Leave the computer on.
  2. Reset all sliders on the board to '0'
  3. Save any changes to the appropriate scene if desired.
  4. Shut down the sound board by flipping the power switch on the back of the board.
  5. Turn off the stack power by flipping the light switch and key switch at the end of the tech booth.
  6. Collect the mics that were used and remove the batteries. Put away the mics.
  7. Test the batteries and place them in the appropriate tray or container.
  8. Put away stage mics, cords, and monitors if needed.
  9. If the tech room garbage is full, place it outside the door for the custodian.
  10. Lock and close the doors to the tech booth and tech storage room.
